The July STEM camp was a big success.
On Wednesday, July 11th, Alan Burrows, Bob Dietz, Bob Kaiser, Bruce Eberle and I showed up at Lindale Middle School to teach 18 kids about fly fishing. Alan and Bob D got to stay indoors and tie flies while Bob K, Bruce and I were outside helping half the kids practice casting, roll casting and teaching kids about fly fishing.
On Thursday, July 12th, we met up at the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge at Lake Redington to fish. All but one kid caught a fish. The species caught included bluegill, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, black crappie and even what I think was a gizzard shad.
Many of the kids caught fish on the flies that they'd tied the day before, which put smiles on their faces. I've posted the pictures below.
Thanks to all that helped out, and this will likely become an annual partnership with Anne Arundel Public Schools.
